ESTIEM

LXX council meeting CALABRIA

5TH MAY- 11th MAY 2025

About Council Meetings

The Council Meeting is the statutory meeting of ESTIEM and takes place twice a year. It is composed of two parts: The General Assembly, where everyone is updated on what is going on in ESTIEM and decisions are made through voting, The Working Groups, Training Sessions and Company Workshops, where smaller groups either work to develop ESTIEM, or improve their soft skills. It is the place where we gather to invest time in our organisation, to meet new and old friends and where we celebrate the ESTIEM Spirit.

Who is applying for what? Check it out here!
All ESTIEMers are able to apply for a position, regardless of the already existing applicants, at any point until the official voting.

36TH BOARD OF ESTIEM

In the last two years, there was only one applicant for president, which is quite disappointing for everyone who loves exciting discussions and fights. My biggest question atm is, if I will be the only applicant or if there is another person, maybe even two, brave enough to apply for the 36th president of ESTIEM.

Hey ESTIEMers,

my name is Jonathan, I am from LG Kaiserslautern in Germany and currently I am visiting nearly all LGs by bike (Europe by Bike 25). The last year was very hard for me like the years before, but this time ESTIEM didn’t make it easier. I made the experience that also ESTIEM can be a cause of mental pressure and suffer. I am the leader of the Mental Health and well-being program of ESTIEM, so I should receive all innovations regarding this topic at first. We do our best, but we are only one part of SERC and SERC is only one small part of ESTIEM. Besides friendship, great empathy and many offers to help I also encountered the mentality “You’re either strong enough for ESTIEM or you drop out“. Maybe this mentality has worked in the past, but times are changing. We are currently facing a war in Europe, most of us for the first time in their life. Peace, democracy, and unity became far idols in a world of uncertainty, violance and hate. We as the biggest network of IEM students in Europe, we should think less like entreupreneurs and start acting like humans with responsibility. We have the chance to unite students from all parts of Europe and give them a promising perspective for the future. ESTIEM is the best example how international collaboration and communication can work peacefully and worthwhile for everyone. It’s time to get closer to each other within our network and include more people instead of having strong competition.

These are my goals for my mandate:

  • Transparency The 35th Board has already made a great contribution to increase the transparency and I would like to continue on this path. We are a democratic community, which means that every member has the right to find out about internal procedures, rules and decision-making processes.
  • Valuation Every active member should feel that their work has a purpose and makes a valuable contribution to something bigger. This includes an open error culture and support in tough situations. Rules and responsibility should always feel good, never oppressive.
  • Well-being ESTIEM does not have a safety or a health problem. But like everywhere else, there are misunderstandings at events and people who do not respect the boundaries of others. This needs to be talked about so that the burden is lifted from those people affected. The same goes for mental health issues. We are all good at offering help, and now we need to become good at accepting help for ourselves.
  • Sustainability Alongside adaptation and innovation, knowledge management plays a major role in sustainability. In the past, there have been many ideas that were not immediately put into practice and forgotten. Sustainability means finding the best solutions from all available resources and sometimes it is worth looking back.
  • Equity All ESTIEMers have equal rights and equal opportunities and still some groups have more difficulties than others. I want to empower people so that everyone can exercise their rights and opportunities equally and give silent people a voice.
  • Support of LGs Local Groups are the core of our network and therefore the activity and development of LGs has top priority. It is an illusion that we can reach everyone in our network. But the aim should be that interested people from the LGs who have not yet had any contact with Central ESTIEM can also reach us.
  • Partnerships A network thrives on interaction with each other, but also on open exchange with partner organizations. I myself particularly enjoy events with external participants, where I get to know new traditions and perspectives. We also benefit greatly from long-term collaborations with the EU and companies, which need to be maintained and expanded.

The position of the president is where all these topics get connected and where a new direction can be taken. I have done nearly everything in ESTIEM except Central leadership. I have applied for leadership positions in the past but was not chosen. Why am I still applying? Because it feels right. Luckily I have plenty of time this year, but this is not the main reason. You should not apply for a position only because you have time. You should apply because you think it is the right time.

ESTIEM is my Love and my Life and my greatest wish for the next years is to see us, the leadership generation of tomorrow, having a positive impact on this crazy world. That’s why I apply to become the 36th president of ESTIEM. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me on the platform of your choice.

Take care and see you in Calabria,
Jonathan Püttmann

I kept finding myself constantly thinking about my future. I never really knew what I wanted to do with my life, but there was always one thing I was sure of: I wanted to support the people around me and aim as high as I could. When I joined ESTIEM, I saw that it was the perfect place to pursue those goals and that made me even more determined to approach my choices with intention and clarity. I never used to go for things I didn’t feel ready for, but now, as my motivation kept growing and growing, I found myself thinking, “Hey, I am brave enough!”

My name is Alexandru Tanco, an enthusiastic 21 year old student from LG Targu Mures, and I’m excited to share with you my candidacy for President of the 36th Board of ESTIEM.

My journey with ESTIEM started back in 2022, when a friend encouraged me to get involved in the organisation. At first, I wasn’t really drawn to the international side of things. I simply wanted to make a difference locally. In 2023, when the new local board was being formed, one position remained open: Human Resources Responsible. Encouraged by my friends, who knew I wanted to get more involved, and driven by my own wish to create impact, I decided to step up and apply. After learning everything I needed in that role, I went on to apply for the position of Vice President of my local group; and was accepted. My involvement on ESTIEM Central started with the previous Council Meeting. Although I had already attended some international events, that CM was the one that really gave me the chance to step into a broader perspective. I started off as Membership Process Responsible, which turned out to be the perfect entry point into Central work. Later on, I was elected Leader of the Members Committee, a bold move, but one I truly wanted to take because of my passion for contributing. Even though this path developed quite quickly for me, I’ve never felt more ready for the steps I’ve taken.

This journey has been full of lessons. Some I’ve already learned. Others are still unfolding. Over the past few years, I’ve learned to make thoughtful decisions and adapt to any situation, even when it meant stepping far outside my comfort zone. That mindset helped me navigate complex challenges efficiently, always with a fast-learning approach. At the same time, I’ve significantly expanded that comfort zone, which has allowed me to quickly understand and handle a wide range of challenges, whether they involved soft skills or hard skills. What defines my leadership style is a strategic mindset. I stay ambitious, but I value listening just as much. I care about collaboration. I believe true leadership isn’t only about pushing forward. It’s also about knowing when to pause, adapt, and grow with the people around you.

Throughout my journey in ESTIEM, I’ve always believed in leading with intention, staying grounded in the values that shaped both my growth and my LG’s evolution. Now, as I take this step forward and present my candidacy for President of the 36th Board, I do so with a clear purpose and a set of goals that reflect both who I am and what I believe ESTIEM can become. Here’s what I want to focus on:

Support local groups at every stage of their journey: from those striving to maintain their membership status to those aiming to grow from Guest or Observer to full Member. While this is a core responsibility of the Members Committee, it’s also a mission that has inspired me from the very beginning. Local groups are at the heart of ESTIEM, and I want to continue standing by them.

Ensure transparency in decision-making: because members should never be left in the dark about choices that impact the direction of the organisation. Clear communication builds trust, and I believe every major decision should be shared openly and explained honestly.

Keep the Board active, engaged, and human: even in the face of challenges. I’m aware of how demanding Central positions can be, and I want to make sure that pressure never distances us from the people we serve. We are, first and foremost, a student organisation made for students. A healthy and supportive Board is essential for long-term success.

Continuously improve our materials, platforms, and structure: not just for the sake of efficiency, but to truly empower those who work with them. Solid resources and tools are the backbone of our development and impact across ESTIEM.

Build on existing projects while encouraging innovation: combining what already works with fresh ideas that can take ESTIEM to the next level. Whether it’s offering students a chance to explore Europe or to grow through soft skill development, all of this is only possible because of the strong internal foundation we’ve built. And I want to keep strengthening it.

Revive student engagement and interest in ESTIEM: I’ve noticed a steady decline in involvement lately, with several LGs facing challenges or even exclusion as a result. I believe this is a growing concern, and I want to actively work on reversing this trend. While I understand that external factors may play a role, I’m committed to finding and implementing concrete solutions that can re-ignite motivation and help us rebuild strong, vibrant local groups.

I was talking with alumni members from my LG, and one thing really stuck with me: our LG struggled a lot just to be able to attend international events, simply because it was forbidden. Our university believed it would be a serious issue if something happened to a student while abroad. That was the situation, until the CM in Belgrade. That’s when someone had the courage to go against the university’s decision. Fully aware of the risks, they chose to go anyway. That moment sparked a real change; from then on, our LG decided to take part in events by choice, not by pressure or obligation. And that’s exactly why I feel such a strong responsibility not to let down the people who fought, stood up, and made it possible for us to be where we are today.

Right now, I feel more than ready to take this step. I truly believe I can make a difference. That’s why I made all the choices that brought me to this point. And I know I’m making the right decision by continuing on this path. That’s why I’m running for this position.

If you have any questions or need any clarification, feel free to reach out to me by email (alexandru.tanco@estiem.org) or on WhatsApp (+40 771 504 831).

I hope to see you all soon — in Calabria or at other upcoming events!

In high ESTIEM,
Alexandru Tanco.

What is something that is stuck in your mind and always reminds you of ESTIEM?

For me, it’s three things: “Kiitos” – Thank you in Finnish and stuck with me ever since my exchange semester in Tampere; “Say it again in once sentence” – A funny memory of Training New Trainers Sofia and something you practise a lot when becoming a Trainer;  “Come on” – Fran’s favourite sentence. These three sentences are something I always think of, when looking at my past years. They represent some of the most important highlights in my ESTIEM journey. From joining Local Group Tampere and getting more involved in ESTIEM, to becoming a Trainer and now a Leader.

Dear ESTIEMers,

My name is Tom Louis Landgraf and it is my greatest honour to present to you my application for the Vice President of Administration of the 36th Board of ESTIEM.

I became a member of Local Group Berlin in 2022, where I was actively involved in the planning and coordination of various events. A year later, during my exchange semester, I joined Local Group Tampere, which sparked my interest in ESTIEM even more and ultimately led me to become a Data Analyst in ESTIEM. In the Analysis Committee, I started to learn how ESTIEM works, while being involved in projects with multiple entities. This led me to apply for the position of the Analysis Committee Leader, my current position.

Throughout my time in various roles, I gained valuable experience in team coordination, time management and inspiring others to stay motivated and committed to their tasks. My experience  as a Trainer has especially improved my adaptability and skills in facilitating. As a Leader I had the opportunity to take part in several strategic events, such as College, Leaders Forum or N.E.R.D. Coordination Meeting. During these events I got to know the network even better and discovered my passion for shaping and developing also the strategic part of ESTIEM.

During my mandate, if elected, I am excited to focus on and work towards achieving these key objectives:

  • Development of sustainable Council Meetings:
    • Collecting more detailed feedback from participants
    • Improving the concept of Parallel Sessions
  • Improving the communication in the network
    • Working on best practices documents as a supporting guideline for different posts on Elium
    • Giving trainings on effective communication
  • Continue improving the GDPR compliance
    • NDAs for team members and Leaders in the entities Information Technology Committee, Analysis Committee and Knowledge Management Committee
    • Trainings for Leaders in Central and Local Group
  • Support the development of a sustainable IT infrastructure
  • Enhance the professional offers as ESTIEM

Looking forward to seeing you in Calabria! In case you have any questions, ideas or want to hear more about my goals you can contact me here: tom.louis.landgraf@estiem.org

ESTIEMers, on the count of 1, 2, 3… Climb, climb up Sunshine Mountain!

About a year ago, I wrote my application for Financial Controller and now, I am writing for a new chapter of my life with even more excitement and stronger belief in my heart! Reflecting on all that ESTIEM has given me fills me with gratitude and brings the biggest smile to my face. It has been where I have grown the most, made some of my closest friends, and created beautiful, everlasting memories. That is why taking on the responsibility for our finances feels like so much more than just a role; it feels like giving back something special.

Therefore, I am pleased to announce that I am applying for Vice President of Finance of the 36th Board of ESTIEM!

Before elaborating on my plans and goals, I would like to briefly introduce myself along with a short ESTIEM journey so far. I am İnci Yerebasmaz, a 22-year-old Industrial Engineering student from Local Group Ankara-METU. My ESTIEM journey began back in November 2021, when I joined as a freshman looking for a place to develop and find myself, and I found that place in ESTIEM!

My journey began when I  was organizing the Mediterranean ReCoM in which I actively participated. This experience got my attention towards Central ESTIEM hence with enormous motivation I took part in the Social Environmental Responsibility Committee CoM’22.  From organizing events like SERC: Awaken the Green in You, TIMES LQs, and exchanges with LGs Grenoble and Gothenburg, Europe3D Turkey, Lean Six Sigma Local Course ( for the first time in my LG), Winter Academy, countless local trainings and local events, to serving as VP of Administration and eventually Local Responsible, I’ve had the chance to lead, collaborate and had amazing experience. Representing my LG as a delegate at CMs in Budapest and Aveiro (and being honored as a Local Hero) reinforced my belief in the value of active contribution.

Each experience did teach me something: to lead with compassion, work interculturally, and stay adaptable in constantly changing environments. ESTIEM College in Zagreb taught me another strategic sense, while active engagement in the SERC further submerged me with Central ESTIEM. Working at SERC, participating in strategic events gave me more of an understanding of how ESTIEM functions beyond the local sphere that had increased my motivation to contribute to the development of ESTIEM. Overall, ESTIEM pushed me out of my comfort zone, I became more confident, and established a sense of purpose based on impact and belonging.

After everything that I had experienced, I wanted to become a Financial Controller because if you want to get to know an organization, you should understand how its finances operate. Since August, I’ve been working as one of the Financial Controllers, ensuring our finances are in order, transparent, and compliant. Besides auditing, we also worked towards raising awareness of finance by attending regional chats and  holding ESTIEM Finance Sessions to make finance more visible and accessible in the network. One of the highlights of this journey was attending the Finance Summits. I discovered enthusiast minds, interesting discussions, and a sense of belonging during Finance Summits. Now, I’m ready for the next step. As Financial Controller, I audited the budget; as Vice President of Finance, I want to shape it which is sustainable, ambitious, and helps ESTIEM truly Aim High.

I am very excited to focus on the financial side of ESTIEM because I understand that financial sustainability is essential to our continued growth. However, beyond the mere financial aspects, I want to preoccupy myself with what I believe to be the core strength of ESTIEM which are our Local Groups and people – with the knowledge and experience I have gained, I want to help and empower our LRs, boards and members – help them thrive like I did. These motivations have influenced me in terms of the goals I would try to achieve during my mandate:

  • Increasing financial knowledge in ESTIEM so we can provide more transparency and accessibility to all ESTIEMers.
  • Increasing the number of institutions providing CR income in cooperation with the VP of Education to increase educational networks and sources of income.
  • Strengthening Corporate Relations by developing an Alumni CR Database to explore new partnerships that bring value to ESTIEMers- not only in terms of finances but also by creating internship and job opportunities.
  • Diversifying income, although grants currently represent our largest source of income, there is a need for us to be less dependent on them in the future; therefore, I would like to create a more predictable and diverse income structure for ESTIEM, and hence a more financially sustainable organisation.
  • Bridging the gap between Local Groups and ESTIEM, possibly by highlighting ESTIEM opportunities and subsidising Active members’ travel. All of this will help to develop closer ties within the network and develop internal growth.

Let’s climb, climb up Sunshine Mountain-together. If you have any further questions, suggestions regarding my application, please feel free to contact me via email (inci.yerebasmaz@estiem.org).

In High ESTIEM,

İnci Yerebasmaz

I still remember that night, the bus ride to Xanthi, sometime around 1 a.m. Most people were asleep, and I sat by the window, wide awake. My heart was beating fast. I was 849 kilometers away from my comfort zone. I was alone, heading to my first international ESTIEM event – the Public Relations Committee Coordination Meeting. That same bus ride that took me away from my comfort zone was leading me to a new one. Over time, ESTIEM transformed from an unknown student network into a place where I felt seen, challenged, and inspired.

Throughout this experience, ESTIEM also taught me to go beyond what feels safe and to always aim higher. Now, in this incredible journey, I’m once again stepping out of my comfort zone – this time, by taking a big step forward.

Dear ESTIEMers,

My name is Doğa Güneri, I am from Local Group Ankara-METU, and it is my greatest honour to present to you my application for Vice President of Public Relations of the 36th Board of ESTIEM.

My ESTIEM journey started in October 2022. After one month I joined ESTIEM, I jumped in to work on the Public Relations Committee as a Social Media Manager. Unlike most ESTIEMers, my first international event was not an exchange, it was PRC CoM, and I was already too excited to work in the PR field in ESTIEM. I was doing the thing that I love to do for the past 6 years in my life – creating content.

After PRC CoM, I wondered about being a leader in ESTIEM, and I attended the Training Next Leaders event. After one exchange, I was quite motivated to apply to my first Council Meeting, and I got selected as a content creator for the first time. During CM Porto, I created and managed more than 100 Instagram stories and got elected as the Central ESTIEMer of the Year. After CM Porto, I was elected as Vice President of Public Relations in my Local Group and organized 3 local and 3 international events with my Local Board during my mandate. I was the project leader of the Winter Academy Sapanca, which was awarded the best Personal Development Department event of the year in CM Aveiro.

During my Local Board year, I experienced new positions in Central ESTIEM such as Approaching Responsible at the Members Committee, Branding Responsible, and PR Trainers Coordinator at the Public Relations Committee. I attended ESTIEM College Zagreb 2024, and I’ve learned a lot about the strategic part of ESTIEM. College made me curious about the external relations of ESTIEM after seeing how valuable the insights that other NGO ambassadors provided were. After representing ESTIEM in one external event, I applied for the ambassador position in ESTIEM and got elected. I am the current ambassador of ESTIEM.

During the past two and a half years, I worked in PRC for 18 months, joined one PR School for Local Groups and organized one, attended 2 PRC CoM and one External Relations Summit, and delivered PR trainings as a soft skill trainer after I graduated from TNT Zagreb 2024. In the external relations area, as ambassador of ESTIEM, I worked closely with student NGO partners, represented ESTIEM in many external events, and actively sought collaboration. After experiencing 33 events from all the areas in ESTIEM, including strategic events such as 4 Council Meetings, 2 ESTIEM College, 3 Coordination Meetings, and being active in different entities in Central ESTIEM, I have gained a comprehensive understanding of everything ESTIEM has to offer, especially in the areas of Public Relations and External Relations.

Therefore, based on all my experiences and background, I feel qualified and eager to work on achieving these goals during the following year:

Enhance ESTIEM’s public image and strengthen the ESTIEM Brand

  • Create diverse, interactive, and innovative content for ESTIEM communication channels.
  • Support Local Groups in Public Relations and strengthen the connection between PRC and LGs.
  • Work on advocacy in ESTIEM by prioritising the promotion of Industrial Engineering and Management (IEM).
  • Ensure the sustainability and continuity of the ESTIEM Magazine and Podcast.

Strengthen the External Relations of ESTIEM

  • Actively seek new partnerships and explore collaboration opportunities with external organisations.
  • Increase awareness and visibility of External Relations (ER) within the ESTIEM network.
  • Encourage and support Local Groups in establishing collaborations with external partners at the local level.
  • Provide guidance to develop ER-related skills for ESTIEMers representing the organisation in external events.

Enhance Engagement and Development in Central ESTIEM

  • Make Central ESTIEM more attractive for all ESTIEMers and increase the engagement of Central ESTIEM leaders and team members with the organisation.
  • Empower Central ESTIEM leaders and team members to develop their skills and knowledge in their specific roles.

If you have any questions or suggestions regarding my application, feel free to contact me via email (doga.guneri@estiem.org), and to approach me during the Council Meeting.

In High ESTIEM,

Doğa Güneri

„Heyhey,

I‘m Eszter from LG Budapest and my fun fact is…“

It starts with this simple message and has been repeated multiple times over the last two years.
When I joined my Local Group in October 2022, I didn’t know that I would meet with so many wonderful people, whom I can call my friends now.

We say that ESTIEM is a playground, it‘s safe and inspiring, a place where I can try, learn and develop. I was Local Responsible in July 2023, soon after that I became a Council Meeting main organiser and also joined the Event Quality Committee, became a Trainer and currently the Alpine Regional Coordinator. I have learned a lot from these positions, projects I worked on, and even more from the people I met on the way. This all seems great already, why to stop now?

At CM Budapest I started playing with a thought and I carry it with me since.

Dear ESTIEMers,

I am happy to present my application for Vice-President of Activities of the 36th Board of ESTIEM.

Why this position?

The answer is simple, I feel the most connected to this position.

Firstly, ESTIEM events are our main offerings, where IEM students can meet, connect and develop themselves. It is most important to keep them running in good quality, number and diversity. All ESTIEMers should be able to participate in activities they are most interested in, and our network should be able to provide it for them.

Moreover focus on the knowledge management of event organisation, keep the Event Organisation School and organise them every half year. Raise awareness of the already existing tools for event organisers.

Last but not least, clearer event application process. With the help of Department Coordinators, Service Leaders, Initiative Leaders and Regional Coordinators develop a new system to make approaching of Local Responsibles and Local Groups better. The goal of this new system is to help the Vice-President of Activites to track better what events are happening, a Local Group already started organising it or haven‘t found a Local Group to host the event.

ACADEMIC DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT

Dear ESTIEMers,

If I had to choose one word to define my ESTIEM journey so far, it would be growth. Not only personal and professional growth, but also the incredible journey of helping others grow too.

It all started in a very simple way 3 years ago — when a friend mentioned the idea of doing an exchange (I didn’t even know what ESTIEM was!) and after that first event, and little by little, I started to get more and more involved. I joined the team, and took part in the Founding Board of LG Cartagena as Vicepresident of Corporate Relations, working in looking for companies to collaborate with.

After a long and challenging process, where we worked hard to build the foundations of our Local Group and connect with the wider ESTIEM community, I had the opportunity next year to be the President of LG Cartagena, and we finally achieved becoming official members of ESTIEM. This was a huge milestone for us and along the way, we also made great memories, like when our Paellas Activity Week was awarded Intercultural Event of the Year, proving that ESTIEM is not only about learning, but also about bringing people together and creating unforgettable shared experiences.

I took the ESTIEM LSS Green Belt Course in February 2023 and shortly after, I spent one year working as a Continuous Improvement Engineer Intern, where I applied Lean Six Sigma in a real industrial environment. During this time, I developed my Green Belt certification project, focusing on process optimisation and problem solving, while also gaining practical experience in quality management, and continuous improvement methodologies through additional company training and daily practice.

Parallel to this, Lean Six Sigma became one of my main areas of passion and development. Over the past year, I have been actively teaching and delivering Lean Six Sigma Green Belt courses (locally and internationally), helping ESTIEMers start their journey in process improvement. This experience as a trainer has been especially enriching — it has taught me how to create engaging learning environments, mentor participants, and support them in applying Lean Six Sigma concepts to real-life challenges. I have recently been notified that I will be officially recognised as a Senior Instructor at the upcoming Council Meeting, which reinforces my commitment to making Lean Six Sigma accessible and valuable within our network.

In addition to my teaching experience, I also participated in the first edition of ESTIEM’s Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, which allowed me to gain even deeper knowledge and connect with outstanding professionals from our community.

Looking ahead, I believe this year is especially important to strengthen the connection between all stages of Lean Six Sigma within ESTIEM — from Green Belt to Black Belt. Building a more seamless pathway will help ESTIEMers progress step by step, stay engaged with the community, and develop the advanced skills needed to become true leaders in process improvement.

If selected as Lean Six Sigma Leader, my vision and objectives will focus on:

– Building and Strengthening the Lean Six Sigma Community
Lean Six Sigma is more than just a service — it’s a shared journey of learning and growth. My main goal is to create a stronger and more connected community of participants, instructors, and alumni. I want to foster collaboration, peer learning, and active engagement so that ESTIEMers see Lean Six Sigma as a place where they belong and where they can continue growing beyond each course.

– Launching a Mentoring Program for Green Belt Projects
The learning process should not stop after the course ends. I aim to introduce a mentoring program where experienced instructors and Alumni can support ESTIEMers during the development of their Green Belt certification projects. This will help ensure that participants successfully apply what they learned and turn theory into real impact, while also creating bonds between generations of ESTIEMers.

– Developing Corporate Partnerships and Practical Opportunities
Bringing Lean Six Sigma closer to the professional world is key. I want to work with CRC to establish partnerships with companies, not only to organise guest talks, workshops and share knowledge, but also to explore possibilities to support the service financially. These collaborations could help cover travel expenses for instructors, making the project more sustainable and inclusive for everyone involved.

– Maintaining High Standards and Keeping the Course Up-to-Date
In order to keep delivering quality and relevance, I believe it’s important to maintain clear standards for instructors and continuously update the course materials as new methods, tools and best practices emerge. This will ensure that Lean Six Sigma remains not only a key academic project in ESTIEM, but also that the quality is the best possible.

Lean Six Sigma has already become key in ESTIEM, and I am ready to dedicate my time, experience, and passion to take it even further. Together, I believe we can build something truly valuable and lasting for our network.

If you’re curious, have suggestions, or simply want to talk about Lean Six Sigma and how we can shape its future together, feel free to contact me at jose.luis.lozano@estiem.org — I’m always happy to connect and exchange ideas!

CAREER DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT

“Great opportunities don’t just come by chance. They arrive when passion, timing, and purpose align.”

Dear ESTIEMers,

I’m Hafsa from LG İstanbul-Yıldız. I’m a 21-year-old industrial engineering student full of excitement. I’m honored to be applying for the Be X for X Days Leadership position.

I joined ESTIEM in 2022 and I’ve attended many international events. My first event was ‘Be an Entrepreneur for 4 Days’, and during this event, I fell in love with ESTIEM thanks to its unique event format and the local group that organized it. Apart from that, I also attended ‘Be a Business Process Consultant for 3 Hours’, ‘Be a Crisis Manager for 5 Days’, and ‘Career Development Department CoM’. Diving into the details of the exact field, experiencing them firsthand, and work shadowing by professionals were some of the most impactful points from BXD events into my career journey. During these events, I’ve gained valuable knowledge on different topics, improved myself, and expanded my skills for the future. And I want other ESTIEMers to profit from it like I do.

After I got back from the ‘Be a Crisis Manager for 5 Days’, I realized how much I’ve gained from ESTIEM and I felt it was time to give something back. As always said, every great journey begins with a single step, and I was ready to take mine. Then, I became a Team Member of BXD and I’ve been working in the team for 12 months now. Aside from BXD, I’m the educational event organizer in PDC and a wildcard of AW. In my personal life, I’m a big fan of sitcom series, especially ‘Friends’, and I call myself a teacoholic since I drink at least 10 cups of tea every day.

Considering all the things we’ve done in the BXD team, I was part of the organization for Be a Supply Chain Manager for 5 Hours and I’m currently the project leader of the upcoming Be a Culture & Change Consultant for 4 Hours event (stay tuned!). Looking back on the past year with BXD, I can say that I don’t regret a single minute I’ve spent working with the team. I’ve learned more than I ever thought I could: how to organize an event independently by being in an international team, how to approach and communicate with companies and other people, how to build strong corporate relations, and most importantly, how to view challenges from different perspectives while supporting local groups.

With my enthusiasm, I would like to achieve the following goals within the next year:

Knowledge Management:
Redesigning the Drive folders by adding a feedback section and collecting feedback from all (previous and future) BXD & BXH events in one folder to maintain consistent event quality.

Helping LGs with the organization part:
Organizing an event can be overwhelming for LGs. With this goal, I want to support LGs based on their specific needs. For example, helping with corporate relations, finding workshop templates and preparations, finding participants, and suggesting some ideas for their night activities.

Increasing the number of online and offline events:
By having close connections with Alumni and LGs, I aim to increase the number and variety of events to engage a broader audience. I want to diversify event topics so every ESTIEMer can find something aligned with their interests and future goals. In addition, I plan to ensure both BXD and BXH events will spread throughout the year for better accessibility.

Thank you for taking the time to read all of this. If you have questions or want to share your feedback, feel free to contact me via hafsa.refia.kir@estiem.org.

Dear ESTIEMers,

I’m Güven Kalın, a 20-year-old Civil Engineering student from LG Istanbul-Bogazici. I’m currently serving on the board of my Local Group and working as a team member in BusinessBooster. With this letter, I’m thrilled to officially announce my candidacy for the Leader position of BusinessBooster.

My ESTIEM journey began with an exchange in Darmstadt. Back then, I had little idea what ESTIEM really was. But in that very first event, I discovered something unique — a network that’s not just about projects or responsibilities, but about learning, sharing, and growing together. Since then, I’ve explored different parts of ESTIEM, seeking the place where I truly belong.

That place turned out to be BusinessBooster.

After joining the BusinessBooster team and attending CDD CoM, I realized how much this entity aligns with my values and interests. I saw how BusinessBooster empowers ESTIEMers to explore entrepreneurship and innovation — not just in theory, but through real, hands-on experiences. This unique combination of practical learning, creativity, and impact is exactly what I want to support and grow further.

During my time as a team member, I’ve had the chance to closely observe how BusinessBooster operates and how much potential it holds. I believe this service can reach even greater heights by becoming more visible across the network, increasing collaboration with Local Groups, and supporting ESTIEMers who dream of building something of their own.

My Mandate Goals
  • Enhancing Visibility and Outreach
BusinessBooster is an incredible platform, but I believe we haven’t fully unlocked its potential. My aim is to establish a more recognizable and inspiring identity for BusinessBooster through stronger PR strategies and showcasing internal success stories. By sharing stories of past projects and entrepreneurs, we can inspire more ESTIEMers to engage with what we offer.

  • Building Stronger Connections with Local Groups
Local Groups are at the heart of ESTIEM. I want to initiate more collaborations by helping Local Groups organize entrepreneurship-focused events. With personalized support and clear guidelines, we can make it easier for every LG to host impactful BusinessBooster-related activities. In this mandate, I’m determined to work closely with a motivated LG to organize an offline event that will be a milestone in BusinessBooster’s journey.

  • Improving Event Content and Diversity
I aim to create diverse event formats that combine theory with practical, hands-on experiences. I want to ensure that each event is designed not just to inform, but to equip participants with real skills. Each event should equip participants with real entrepreneurial skills, ensuring they leave more confident, inspired, and ready to take action in their own ventures.

  • Creating an Entrepreneurial Knowledge-Sharing Series
Launching monthly online talks “BusinessBooster Talks” featuring ESTIEM alumni and experienced entrepreneurs to share their stories and knowledge. This will turn BusinessBooster into a learning hub—not just a platform for pitching, but a place for growing a strong and supportive community of young innovators.
Over time, this series will also help cultivate a strong sense of community, turning BusinessBooster into a structure where belonging and connection are deeply felt.

I believe that with strong teamwork, creativity, and commitment, BusinessBooster can become an even more vital pillar of ESTIEM, inspiring students to innovate, take action, and build something that matters.

If you have any questions or ideas, I’m always open to chatting! Feel free to reach out to me via guven.kalin@estiem.org.

Although I couldn’t attend CM Calabria, I’m excited about the opportunity to meet many of you in other ESTIEM events. See you somewhere in Europe!

In high ESTIEM,
Güven Kalın

“Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.”
– Winston Churchill

This belief perfectly captures what TIMES means to me. TIMES is not just a series of case studies or competitions; it is a living example of how courage, perseverance, and creativity come together. It is a space where every ESTIEMer, regardless of their background, stands up to face new challenges not just to win, but to grow.

In the TIMES room, solutions are not just answers; they are reflections of collaboration, resilience, and ambition. It’s a place where ideas clash, inspire, and evolve into something greater. It is where bonds are formed under the pressure of the clock, and where moments of doubt are transformed into moments of triumph.

For me, TIMES is a celebration of human potential, a journey where every obstacle is a stepping stone, and every experience becomes part of an unforgettable story.

Dear Esteemed ESTIEMers,

I am Mert Kara from LG Istanbul-Bogazici, a 19-year-old freshman Management student. I’ve been a board member of LG Istanbul-Bogazici for nearly a year. My ESTIEM journey began in January 2024. Right after my portal was opened, I came across Central ESTIEM and started as PR Responsible in PDC, but later I found my true passion in TIMES.

Following my delegate experience at CM Aveiro and my election as a Board Member in my LG, I became deeply involved in TIMES. We organized the first offline event of Visual Storytelling with Data and TIMES Local Qualification in LG Istanbul-Bogazici, and at the end of 2024, I proudly became PR Responsible for TIMES.

Since then, I’ve been fully committed to TIMES, participating in events such as CDDCoM organised by LG Ankara-Bilkent and supporting our project’s visibility. I also attended the Mental Health Workshop and Trondheim Activity Week, further strengthening my ESTIEM spirit. My last event BusinessBooster in Belgrade even enhanced my CDD knowledge to the next level. I will be the project leader for one of the semi-finals which will take place online. And now, I am excited to take the next step by applying for the TIMES Leader position at CM Calabria.

Why I love TIMES?

I love TIMES because it brings together everything I value about ESTIEM – challenge, learning, connection, and growth. It’s not just a competition; it’s a space where ESTIEMers come together to push their limits, work as a team, and solve real-world problems creatively.

Being part of TIMES showed me how powerful collaboration and critical thinking can be. It’s inspiring to see students from different backgrounds thinking differently, but still finding ways to build solutions together. I love how TIMES doesn’t just focus on winning, but on learning, sharing knowledge, and building friendships across Europe.

Also, through working as PR Responsible for TIMES, I realized how much passion and dedication goes on behind the scenes to make this project successful. It made me feel even more connected to the mission of ESTIEM.

TIMES is about more than case-solving; it’s about developing yourself both personally and professionally, and that’s why it holds such a special place in my heart.

How I Would Contribute to TIMES?

First and foremost, I want to contribute my passion, dedication, and creativity to elevate TIMES even further. Having been involved as PR Responsible in TIMES and working closely with the team, I’ve seen how powerful this project is not only as Europe’s biggest case-solving competition but also as a platform where ESTIEMers grow personally and professionally.

As a Leader candidate, I want to focus on four main contributions:

  • Strengthening Visibility and Branding: I want to build on the PR work and create an even stronger, more consistent identity for TIMES. By improving our communication strategy, we can ensure that every ESTIEMer, from a freshman to an alumnus, clearly understands the value and prestige of TIMES.

  • Supporting Local Groups More Actively: Local Groups are the heart of TIMES. I want to provide them with more support materials, guidance, and mentorship—especially for organizing Local Qualifications—making it easier for more LGs to be part of this amazing journey. We’ll create WhatsApp groups for LQ organizers to ensure direct and clear support.

  • Enhancing the Participant Experience: I aim to make TIMES not just a competition, but a full experience. I want to introduce additional elements like workshops, alumni roundtables, and networking moments during Semi-Finals and the Final, creating unforgettable memories and added value for all participants.

  • Redefining Roles in the TIMES Team and Fostering Continuous Engagement: Regularly redefining roles to align with the competition’s needs and team members’ strengths fosters ownership and motivation. A connected and motivated team will drive TIMES forward with fresh energy and ideas.

Overall, I want to contribute to making TIMES more visible, more accessible, and more impactful for every ESTIEMer—just as it has already been for me.

INTERCULTURAL DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT

“Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the most motivated one for AW of all?”

Months ago, this was the very first sentence I wrote in my motivation letter for the Activity Week Team. And for months, I have carried that same passion in my heart: to bring joy to people, to be a part of their journey, and to create memories that will be cherished forever.

Each person carries a unique story within them, and Activity Week is where those stories intertwine, where we write them together. When I think of Activity Week, only once-in-a-lifetime moments come to my mind. It is something truly extraordinary. The excitement in people’s eyes, the laughter that echoes through shared experiences, and the friendships that leave an everlasting mark. These are the little miracles that turn Activity Week into something unforgettable.

If it is not magic, what is it?

Dear ESTIEMers,

My name is İrem, I’m a 21-year-old Industrial Engineering student. I am VP of HR of LG Istanbul-ITU and proudly Event Quality Responsible of Activity Week.

In October 2023, I met ESTIEM and since then I have been living this life with ESTIEM. With all the excitement, I took on many roles as an OT and then was selected as the Project Leader of an exchange, immediately starting to learn event organisation. I went to Novi Sad to develop my department and raise awareness of the problems in the Intercultural Development Department CoM 2024. I represented my Local Group as a delegate in the LXIX Council Meeting Seville. In the last months, to improve and contribute to our network, I participated in ESTIEM College-Yildiz.

As a local board member, I have been an organiser for many events: TNT-Istanbul, Medi Motivational Weekend, Public Relations CoM, Lisbon Exchange. And on the Central level, I work in the Human Resources Committee as Training Next Leaders Coordinator. So far, I have been an organiser for 7 events and am also trying to create qualified, great events for AW while participating in them.

Let’s go to the best part of the story: Activity Week! I joined the AW team in July and for the past nine months, I have been responsible for ensuring the quality of Activity Week events. Even though the year is not yet over, I have already served as the Event Quality Responsible for 12 Activity Weeks. I have participated in over 20 Event Quality Chats with organizers, gaining firsthand insights into every type of AW and closely observing the entire process.

Furthermore, to ensure sustainability and improve efficiency, I created the Activity Week Event Quality Chat Guidelines, setting a standard for these discussions and making the process smoother for future generations. With all this experience, I have gained a deep understanding of the organizational side of Activity Weeks, knowing every detail of the planning process.

All of these things I have done in AW as a member; but I want to do even more as a leader. These are the things I would like to achieve through my mandate:

Raising the bar for Activity Week: Exploring Culture, Enhancing Experience

  • Organising online concepted events focused on specific cultural aspects (food, art, history etc.), a short online event type called Intercultural Activity Day.
  • Establishing a structured system for Event Quality chats to create regular, effective communication with LGs, keeping everyone aligned.
  • Ensuring safety by requiring two SCPs from the organising team in needed Activity Weeks. (Create a SCP guideline and require safety sessions in the agenda)
  • Researching more about cultural aspects and creating an idea pool in AW for IDD, and implementing those into the events. (collaboration with ESTIEM official accounts, DC)
  • Aligning with PR Centralisation to establish a unified, professional identity for AW events across the network (SG, name tag, promotion materials templates), and creating AW Merch with special items for the events.

Strengthening the Team of Activity Week: A More Empowered Team

  • Redefining team roles for clearer task distribution, assuring smoother operations and enabling active participation.
  • Providing team members training and guidance to ensure they become more qualified in their roles.

The Activity Week Knowledge: Let’s Pass It to Next Generations!

  • Advancing the structure and usage of AW guides and providing LGs with essential resources—like the AW timeline—to ensure better organization and management throughout the event planning process.
  • Building a clear structure for feedback chats and organizing insights from current and past events. Implementing past feedback into event planning.

Thank you for reading my journey, see you in Calabria! Until then, for your questions or suggestions, you can always contact me via irem.cakir@estiem.org!

After all, I knew that I will never be the same.
Two years in ESTIEM full of inspiration, dedication, self-exploration and growing.
Memories and laughs in mind that remind me how it feels to be alive.
Joy of being in a place where you know you belong.
Many more is to come…

Dear ESTIEMers!

Happy to see that you dropped by here 🙂 If we haven’t met before, my name is Zeynep Yayla. I am the LR of LG Ankara-METU and Event Quality Responsible for the Europe3D Team.

It is a great pleasure to announce my application for the Europe3D Leadership for the upcoming year!

My ESTIEM journey started as an organization team member in Europe3D Türkiye 2023. Thanks to my organization team experience, I closely observed the organization process of a Europe3D event from the eyes of organizers. I fell in love with the concept of Europe3D and felt an urge to do something more about it.

I joined the Europe3D Central Team as Externals Responsible. I evaluated external applications, promoted Europe3D opportunities, and maintained communication with external participants. Here, I learned more about the external side of Europe3D.

Furthermore, I attended Europe3D Norway and Europe3Days Coimbra. These were the two wonderful events to which I owe my ESTIEM motivation. I found myself questioning how I ended up here—surrounded by incredible kindness, care, and a vibrant energy that filled every moment. In those little moments I knew that I want to be the Europe3D leader. I was aiming high but I also needed to work hard.

To learn more about the Europe3D structure, I wanted to experience another position in the team and I became the Event Quality Responsible. It was a great chance to actively communicate with LGs, supporting them to bring out the best events and closely work with the leader.

Then I made a big decision in my journey and I became the Local Responsible of LG Ankara-METU. It was a year like a roller coaster full of lessons, challenges, and milestones. I am glad that I did because I gained so much experience in team management, event organization and strategic planning. But most importantly, I made many people enthusiastic about ESTIEM and helped them to find their own way in this beautiful network. Seeing our newbies’ self-development throughout the year and the happiness of the participants in the events we organised were always my biggest source of motivation.

Thanks to all of the valuable experiences and inspiring people, today I am at another milestone in my ESTIEM journey!

So let’s talk business, right? Here is a brief overview of my goals for my mandate with our lovely panda team:

Organizational

  • Encouraging creativity to have new activity, session, and concept ideas in E3D events through brainstorming sessions, best practice sharing, and collaboration with past organizers.
  • Working with EQC to develop a more structured toolkit by organizing existing materials, removing outdated ones and integrating new tools.
  • Alleviating the concerns of potential organizers about organizing an E3D event.

Promotion

  • Improving internal and external promotion of E3D events via Preview3D, testimonial videos, and promotional documents, etc.
  • Working with Ambassadors and MC about potential future collaborations.
  • Working with AC for the analysis of externals in E3D events.

Development of Past Initiatives

  • Sustain the development of knowledge management tools in the service drive and event feedback system.
  • Developing materials and methods used in the ICAT sessions.
  • Clarifying the E3Days concept and creating guiding tools.

Team Structure and Cooperation

  • Creating an enthusiastic and collaborative team environment with regular monthly calls and team-building activities.
  • Re-defining team roles to enhance team engagement and boost team motivation.
  • Actively cooperating with IDD service leaders and alumni pandas for the areas of improvement.
  • Sharing and embracing the motto of “TO BE OR NOT TO BE A PART OF IDD!!!”

You can always hit me up via zeynep.yayla@estiem.org if you want to ask anything or hear more about my goals! Looking forward to seeing you somewhere in Calabria and hopefully in a lovely Europe3D event <3

“If we couldn’t understand each other, would we even be here today… together?”

Dear ESTIEMers,

This is Toprak Yanmaz from LG Istanbul-Yildiz & LG Calabria, and I am truly excited and proud to announce my application for the Leadership of the Language Programme.

My ESTIEM journey began in October 2023 with LG Istanbul-Yildiz. Since then, I’ve had the pleasure of contributing to both the PR Team and the Organization Team for Mediterranean ReCoM’24 and the LSS Central Course. It was a vibrant year full of the ESTIEM Spirit, and everything took a meaningful turn when I was accepted to CM LXVIII Aveiro as an Extra Place participant. There, I shared unforgettable moments with ESTIEMers from across Europe and gained my first true insight into the workings of Central ESTIEM. In February 2025, I started my Erasmus+ studies in UniCal, therefore being part of LG Calabria. Since then, I have been part of the PR Team here working on the CM itself and I cannot wait to have you here in our beautiful Calabria!

Now, onto the Language Programme!

Languages have always been a passion of mine, and since CM Aveiro, I knew I wanted to be part of this wonderful team. In August 2024, I applied — and as you might guess, the journey began.

Starting off as a Language Course Responsible, I felt driven to contribute beyond my defined role. That’s why I proposed taking on Language Nights as well — and with the support of our amazing collaborating LGs and the LP Leader, I’ve proudly organized Finnish, French, and Serbian editions (with many more on the way!). I’m especially thrilled to share that Language Night: Serbian! became the most attended Language Night to date — and all our events have received overwhelmingly positive feedback!

Language Programme has finished its Chapter 10: Excellence Bridge of Languages and I am welcoming you to “Chapter 11: Breaking Barriers, Together!”

In ESTIEM, every event becomes more than just a gathering… it’s a chance to truly connect. We open our hearts by sharing something deeply personal: Our native languages. And without even realizing it, we’ve been doing something extraordinary… breaking down language barriers, hand in hand, word by word — together.

Now, allow me to share the goals I would like to pursue during my mandate:

Cross-Functional Engagement

  • Certification of Language Courses
  • Collaboration with CRC to connect with companies that share the Language Programme’s values, supporting us with materials and resources for members and LGs

Information Transmission: A Legacy for the Next Generations

  • Establishment of sustainable long-term knowledge management practices
  • Enhanced feedback collection and field research
  • Development of tools to support LGs in offering offline activities
  • Creation of BPDs for Language Nights and other offerings
  • Optimization of MPOs to track progress more efficiently

Structuring Service Identity

  • Promoting cultural awareness and ensuring continuity of current offerings
  • Increasing the visibility of the service across various communication channels
  • Standardizing PR practices to ensure consistency and alignment with PR Centralization

Language Programme holds a big potential within its hands and I am sure to make it shine bright as it’s ever been.

Thank you so much for spending your time here reading this. If you have any questions or want to learn more about my goals or any stuff, feel free to hit me up via toprak.yanmaz@estiem.org!

To get better in each step we take together, because we understand each other!

Dear Fellow ESTIEM’ers

My name’s Bartu Karadeniz, I’m a 20 year old student from LG Ankara-Bilkent and I’m a local board member for the current mandate. I would like to proudly announce to you all, my application to be the next Leader of The Summer Academy Service.

My ESTIEM journey started in the day that I joined my university. The global network, the experiences, the friendships and the unique culture of ESTIEM made not being an ESTIEM’er impossible for me. I’ve had amazing experiences and proud accomplishments at the local level and I ended up as a local board member. My first event as a participant in ESTIEM was LXVIII CM Aveiro as a delegate. Being a part of a Council Meeting gave me a bigger and better vision and high interest about ESTIEM, where I got more knowledge about every entity in this network and how this network really carried on with it’s mission. After this, I wanted to take my ESTIEM journey to the next level and discover different sides of this wide network. That’s how I joined Central ESTIEM and specifically the Summer Academy team.

There are a lot of reasons for my choice of joining the Summer Academy team. I saw the role as a new and a worthy challenge for me. It was new because I didn’t have any experience in personal development and worthy because I saw Summer Academy as an important chance for all ESTIEM’ers. I joined the team as the Event Quality Responsible and I quickly grasped the idea of how to organize a Summer Academy event and my main focus through this role was to use my experience in event organization in general to support my leader and the organizing Local Groups. I always tried to be involved in any aspect of Summer Academy, whether it’s communication with the Academic Leaders or any small or big decision towards a SAC event or the general situation of the service. I believe it’s time for me to roll up my sleeves and get to work for this entity with much more responsibility and I believe I can achieve this by becoming the leader of this service. My motivation is simple, giving back to this great entity that has given to me a much broader sense of vision and experience and giving back to the network that is ESTIEM by ensuring the well-being and success of an essential service that gives every ESTIEM’er a chance to have an experience that can change their life.

To give back to this entity and to take it to the next level, there needs to be a vision about the future state and the progress of this entity. I can easily say that I have one, created with my experience in the SAC team. In order to keep Summer Academy an important chance for all ESTIEM’ers, Summer Academy needs to be accessible. This can be achieved by having different SAC events in different regions throughout my mandate, all being in a standard of quality. Keeping up the quality of the events is essential for the experience of the participants and the reputation of the service which will inevitably impact the motivation of the network for Summer Academy. Accordingly, the next thing this entity needs is a team with high motivation. Having a highly motivated team with healthy communication between it’s members leads to better and more visionary events and as the leader I will be responsible for creating the communication and keeping the team members motivated throughout the mandate. I believe this can be achieved firstly with keeping my own communication with my fellow team members healthy and open. I also will ensure that they wil have the creative space that they need to explore the different sides and broaden their ideas about the entity. I think the most essential responsibility of the Summer Academy service is it’s communication with Academic Leaders. It is a must to ensure that the entity has a healthy number of Academic Leaders in it’s contacts to have more quality events. My responsibility will be to keep close contacts with the Academic Leaders in previous events and also to get new Academic Leaders in our contacts and in our events. Of course these plans and progressions don’t find their meanings without making Summer Academy more well known and popular in the network. This will be achieved by different PR strategies with influence. Some aspects that should be considered important are sharing future events in different outlets with explanations about the concept of the event and it’s theme as well as content to increase the general knowledge about Summer Academy in the network. I’m ready and will be more than happy to answer all your questions or listen to your comments regarding my application. You can contact me via bartu.karadeniz@estiem.org or WhatsApp (+905392327600).

Bartu Karadeniz

PROJECTS

To the person interested in reading this, this is one of the biggest steps of my life.
Hi fellow ESTIEMer! I’m Vural Akçay, a proud member of LG Ankara-METU. I don’t count my age, like an old Italian quote says: “Anni, amori, e bicchieri di vino, nun se contano mai.” (Years, loves, and glasses of wine shouldn’t be counted.) The same goes for the number of times I’ve fallen in love with this amazing community.
Let me tell you why.

My ESTIEM journey began last year. I was eagerly seeking to get active in a student society, and finally met ESTIEM. At first, it seemed like a travel-focused network, but I quickly discovered the opportunities it offers: career development, master’s programs, and international collaboration. Weekly meetings boosted my confidence and knowledge, and I got accepted to my first event.
I was lucky to attend CM Aveiro as a photographer for my very first event. Experiencing a Council Meeting so early gave me a deep cultural shift—and a powerful realization: I want to be a part of this. Later, I became the project leader of the long-anticipated Kapadokya AW. It was a challenging process due to government permissions and logistical hardships, but with our dedicated and well-rounded team, we managed to organize one of the most complicated events in ESTIEM history. The Kapadokya AW was chosen as The Best IDD Event in the last council meeting. Hosting such a successful event in my hometown, where I’ve spent my entire life, was one of the proudest moments I’ve ever experienced.
There, I also had the chance to engage with current leaders, which helped shape my future in central ESTIEM. Right after the event, I joined two teams I’ve been planning to get into: the Public Relations Committee (PRC) and the Magazine. Since last October, I have been practicing as a graphic designer for both. In the Magazine, we generate layouts based on articles obtained from authors; in PRC, we volunteer for tasks within the brand guidelines. While practicing, I developed a mutualism between both teams, each team’s knowledge supports the other’s work.
Since joining the Magazine, I’ve been dedicated to finding areas for improvement. I know nothing can be 100% completed, but the idea of closing it makes the difference. This mindset has pushed me to take the next step: running for leadership to bring real development. Since my childhood I’ve been collecting any kind of magazine. I read them all and determined the points where the publisher draws more attention.
Being a leader in ESTIEM will contribute to both my personal and career path. As a leader, I’ll have key connections such as the other leaders and the representatives of companies, this will develop my vision. My main aim is to take the crucial steps to turn it into a strong, recognizable brand. I’ve classified my approach into four key areas: PR, content, design, and administration.

Public Relations (PR) Goals: The visibility of the magazine

  • As the ESTIEM’s public face, we’ll stay in touch with alumni and companies more often for sponsorships and ads.
  • Collaborating with the PRC leader, social media manager, and VPPR to boost our visibility.
  • Producing content with the ESTIEM Podcast will also increase our reach.

Content Goals: The content

  • We’ll make the magazine more interactive to heighten the joy of reading, and follow current trends to stay relevant.
  • We’ll involve the reader more throughout the creating process, to increase the reader engagement.

Design: Layout and process

  • We’ll implement a buddy system where experienced designers mentor newcomers. We currently have 3 knowledgeable designers who are willing to train new designers.
  • We’ll make people more knowledgeable about the InDesign software. I believe everyone should be aware that it is not rocket science.
  • I also plan to create a detailed best practice document for the design requirements for the magazine ( colors, fonts and image requirements), and keep it regularly updated to create consistent visuals rather than different design styles

Administration: Team and management

  • Building close friendships within the team through informal activities (movies, study sessions, meetups) will strengthen bonds and increase motivation. We’ll increase the collaboration and friendships among the team by staying in touch more often.
  • We’ll introduce a new role ”Quality Responsible” to increase efficiency through a new recruitment. Receiving feedback from the team, checking whether the schedule is on time and holding minutes for the meetings will be some of these position’s requirements.
  • Collaborative coordination meeting with PRC to find solutions for the magazine’s problems.

All of these efforts aim to leave a better, more sustainable working environment for future leaders and teams. It may seem ambitious, but once I committed to this, there was no turning back.

OTHER

Dear ESTIEMers,

I am Efekan Evrenkaya from LG Istanbul-Yildiz. I am thrilled to start my Financial Controller application journey with this application letter, and also looking forward to presenting at CM Calabria.

First of all, I would like to start with briefly introducing myself and my ESTEIM journey. I am a senior IEM student and hope to graduate next year. A year after I started my degree, I joined ESTIEM by the end of 2021, and I am really grateful to be in this amazing family since then. I participated in an exchange with LG Berlin as my first event, and I can state that my ESTIEM journey has officially started with this wonderful experience. After a while, I was elected as Design Leader at the mother organization of LG Istanbul-Yildiz. That one-year mandate witnessed a lot of ESTIEM memories, but the most important was the organization of LXV CM Yildiz. (The poster of the CM I designed won the best design of the year 🙂 ) I also worked as a Graphic Designer at the PRC at the same time for a couple of months and attended LXVI CM Porto as Livestream and Question Responsible. Currently, I am a Data Analyst in the Analysis Committee.

Okay, the bells start to ring for the finance part of my life! Actually, I am a natural-born finance guy since I was born as a finance baby. My father is a financial advisor, and my mother is retired from the bank as a Vice Manager. So, finance has been and will be in my DNA for a lifetime. After my Design Leader mandate was over, I was elected as VP of Finance to the mother organization board. I was responsible for the whole organization’s financial activities, including the LG’s finances. I am addicted to being in finance and financial terms. Moreover, I would like to be involved and gain knowledge about international finance. Also, I want to add value to the ESTIEM with my knowledge and experience. That’s why I have a strong desire to be a Financial Controller.

Let’s point out my goals I will be focused on through my mandate if I’m elected:

  • Understanding and Knowledge: Finance tracking and management can be complex and require a background, but understanding and knowing what is going on should be simple and convenient for everyone. This will be my primary goal both in the audit reports and in other communications.
  • Transparency: This is the most important key point of the FC. I will pay special attention to this so that the financial processes will proceed in a healthy way and ESTIEM will not face any problems.
  • Support the VP of Finance: Using my previous experience and expertise, I will do my best to ensure that the VP of Finance has a successful mandate and that all processes run smoothly.
  • Communication: Good and strong communication will ensure that finance is properly checked, the VP of Finance can continue his/her work in a healthy way, and the council is properly informed. I will be in strong communication with both the ESTIEMers and the board.

If you have more questions about my application or want to learn further, feel free to contact me. Here is my email efekan.evrenkaya@estiem.org, and for WhatsApp +90 543 634 8294

“Zülal? Oh, she’s probably somewhere with ESTIEM again.”

Dear ESTIEMers,

I hope we’ve already met somewhere in Europe but if we haven’t, I’m Zülal Diler, a 20-year-old Economics student from LG Istanbul-Bogazici and I’m currently one of the local board members. It is an honor for me to announce that with this letter, I’m applying for the Financial Controller position.

Before I start, I would like to briefly talk about my ESTIEM journey. I started this journey with LGX with Lappeenranta. It was my first time abroad alone and this experience opened a big chapter in my life. I knew I wanted to dive deeper into this amazing network so I attended Council Meeting Aveiro as an Extra Place. (Aveiro é nosso!!) After each presentation in CM Aveiro, I knew that I would somehow find myself on that stage in the future. Day after day, I found myself more connected to this amazing network. Following CM Aveiro, I was elected to the local board in May 2024 and have continued my mandate since.

During my mandate, we organized many successful events, and I was responsible for budget, bookkeeping, and activities. Local board experience, especially in the finance field, made me realize that finance is the field I’m most passionate about and eager to develop more. In September, I became more active on the central side by joining the service Vision. That was where I felt deeply involved with central ESTIEM and it motivated me to step further. Many more amazing events later, I attended CM Seville as a delegate to represent my Local Group. It was at CM Seville that the idea of becoming a Financial Controller truly clicked. It was the turning point of my decision to become one.

As my interest in finance kept growing, the idea of pushing this interest on a central level led me to explore ESTIEM’s finances more because I believe that pure accounting/finance knowledge is not enough for this position—it is also crucial to know how these translate into ESTIEM’s dynamics. Hence, I attended Finance Summit 2.0 in Warsaw. This event was incredibly valuable for me. Those five days spent fully dedicated to ESTIEM’s finances and having first-hand discussions with two generations of Financial Controllers gave me a much broader, more practical view of what this position really means. After this experience, I knew with certainty that I was ready to apply and that I had a clear idea of what I could bring to the position. Moreover, as an Economics major, I have taken and will continue to take multiple finance and accounting courses.

Okay, if you’ve made it this far, thank you so much for reading! Now I’d love to share what I aim to bring to the position:

  • Accuracy & Compliance:
I will make sure that every document in the budget is compliant with Dutch Law and honestly made, and that all financial transactions follow ESTIEM’s internal rules and any external funding requirements.

  • Clarity:
I aim to create audit reports that are technically accurate, structured, and written in a way that everyone can understand, regardless of their financial background. I aim to improve the handover process by ensuring more detailed categorization and avoid overly broad budget summaries which contribute to a clear audit/bookkeeping process.

  • Engagement & Awareness:
Financial matters of ESTIEM, what FCs do, and financial reports are rarely known in a broader sense in the network. This causes problems when it comes to the sustainability of the position and also increases the distance between finances of ESTIEM and the members. Thus, I will work on making this position more approachable by making the financial matters more understandable and accessible, while reaching out to as many as I can about the finances of ESTIEM.

  • Working closely with the VPF:
By maintaining close communication with the Vice President of Finance, I will help ensure accurate financial management and contribute to the stability of ESTIEM’s financial future.

Thank you so much for reading all this, and if you have any questions, please reach out to me through either WhatsApp (+905318609004) or zulal.diler@estiem.org 🙂

See you at CM Calabria or somewhere in Europe!!

In High ESTIEM,
Zülal DILER

Dear E$TIEMers,

A few years ago, I signed up to join ESTIEM without fully knowing what it was. My first real step into the network was an exchange with Stockholm—and that turned out to be the start of one of the most exciting, meaningful (and yes, expensive) journeys of my student life.

That exchange blew my mind. I suddenly found myself surrounded by people from different cultures, with unique stories—and Mintu. It felt like I had stumbled into something far bigger than I expected. From that moment, I knew I wanted to dive deeper.

And so I did. I became active in my Local Group, helped organise events, and started building strong connections with ESTIEMers across Europe. After Council Meeting Aveiro, inspired by the energy and ambition in the room, I decided to run for President of my LG. That role opened my eyes to the inner workings of ESTIEM—and especially to the essential role finance plays in turning bold ideas into reality.

Six months into my mandate, I wanted to broaden my perspective. That’s when I joined the Grants Committee, where I truly discovered how strategic funding and well-managed resources shape the ESTIEM experience.

One of the defining moments of this journey was Finance Summit 2.0. Those five days were eye-opening: packed with learning, peer exchanges and deep dives into the financial backbone of our network. What might seem dry to some became, for me, a genuine source of inspiration. That summit didn’t just give me knowledge—it gave me clarity: I want to become the next Financial Controller.

Beyond ESTIEM, I’ve been active in several committees within my student association, including corporate relations, event organisation, and the Solvay Finance Club. These experiences have helped me develop practical skills—from budgeting and planning to communication and negotiation.

Academically, I’m studying Management Engineering and will graduate in 2026. My studies have equipped me with a solid foundation in economics, accounting, and management control. While I don’t speak Dutch fluently, I have a solid reading level—enough to understand bookkeeping and Dutch-language documents, which comes in handy when working with bank accounts in Eindhoven.

If elected as Financial Controller, I will focus on the following priorities:

Clarity without compromise
Financial documents should be accurate, compliant, and accessible. I will ensure that budgets, audits, and reports are presented clearly—not just to experts, but to everyone in ESTIEM.

Strong collaboration with the VPF
The Financial Controller must remain independent, but also closely monitor and communicate with the Vice President of Finance. I’ll work to ensure transparency, accountability, and a healthy financial mandate.

Spreading financial knowledge
Financial understanding shouldn’t be limited to a few. I’ll work on making ESTIEM’s financial structure more accessible and actively promote financial literacy within and beyond my LG.

Building sustainable systems
Finance is not just about managing today—it’s about preparing for tomorrow. I’ll prioritise thorough documentation and effective handovers to build continuity across generations.

To me, finance isn’t just about keeping the books in order—it’s about enabling the network to grow, create, and connect. As Adrien would say: “Finance is fun fun fun!” (preferably in a slightly drunk voice).

Thank you for taking the time to read my application. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out via
maxime.braye@estiem.org or WhatsApp: +32 471 85 37 28

Looking forward to seeing you at CM Calabria or somewhere else across the network.

In high E$TIEM,
Maxime Braye

Dear ESTIEMers,

Once Dante Gebel said— and has been in my head spinning since
“Everything beautiful in this life messes up your hair. Running on the beach messes up your hair. Riding a roller coaster messes up your hair. Kissing the person you love messes up your hair. So let life mess up your hair.”

And I think it’s time to take another interesting step in my ESTIEM journey and let mess up my hair once again!

I’ve been in ESTIEM since September 2022, and I can honestly say it’s been one of the best decisions of my life so far. It’s been a place where I’ve travelled like crazy, met (and continue meeting) amazing people, grown a lot personally, and I believe I can keep doing that in Central for another year—just with a change of scenery as you can see.

Well, let me briefly tell you about my journey in ESTIEM so far:

My journey in ESTIEM began with an Exchange in Coimbra in November 2022, but things truly took off when I joined the local Corporate Relations Committee and helped organize “Let’s Get a Job,” connecting companies and students. The following year, I became CRC Leader and ran several successful events, which led me to take an even bigger step: becoming President of my Local Group and joining Central as South-West Regional Coordinator—an incredible experience alongside six amazing teammates. Driven by my passion and inability to sit still, I then took on the challenge of organizing LXIX Council Meeting Sevilla last November, a milestone event where I hope those who attended had as much fun as I did organizing it.

So after all this, you might still be thinking: “but where are the finances in all this and why I am applying for Financial Controller Ale?” Well, finances’ve always had my attention—they’ve always been on my radar to be fair. During LXIX CM Sevilla, I handled all the accounting, financing, and bookkeeping, alongside managing national and international relationships. On top of that, I am currently working as a Junior Project Manager handling international projects, and part of my role involves budget management, cost control, etc so this world is not “new” to me. So as you can see, finance (fun fun fun!!! — I had to throw that in somewhere) has been with me for a while but I believe there are still a lot of knowledge there that I want to learn about. That’s why I’m motivated to make an impact in this fascinating world as Financial Controller this next year.

I think I’ve probably talked too much already, so let’s get to the important part—my goals, which can be summed up as:
• Contability surpervision and financial reports: Make sure that the preparation and presentation of the financial reports are precise and visual for everyone to understand them.
• Financial Transparency and Accessibility: Introduce visual reporting tools and open Q&A sessions to increase understanding among members with huge interest in this matter, even if it’s not a direct task of this position.
• Take care of the Vice President of Finance: The Vice President of Finance is the pilot of the ship where communication is crucial, but the Financial Controller is the instrument that measures whether we’re flying safely. A Financial Controller is there to help and take care of that position and their respective activities.
• Solid Transition and processes: Develop a comprehensive Handover and create an archive with all the information related to this matter for future Financial Controllers, making the transition between years smoother.

If you have any more questions, do not hesitate to send a message or an email (alejandro.rodriguez.lopez@estiem.org / ‪+34 637614674‬), and I will be more than pleased to reply to your questions or talk a little bit more in detail at any moment!

Ale.
